Things I’m Loving Right Now
The lady behind PlayHooray, Claire, is a mum-genie. She’s well and truly saved my bacon on a boring day stuck indoors, of which I have many because I live in the middle of nowhere and I still can’t drive. I’m not really one of those mums who can just sit in front of the TV all day,it makes me feel all claustrophobic and yucky, so keeping myself and Milo busy is imperative; enter, PlayHooray for inspiration! Claire sells a whole range of ingenious packs, crammed with simple ideas that either don’t cost any money at all or the ingredients of which can be found at your local pound store. She regularly posts on Insta stories when she’s thought up something brand spanking new to get stuck in to and you can see how it pans out with her very own son Mason before trying it yourself. If you’re feeling a bit stuck and/or bored of the same books/make believe then at least one of her packs are great to have on stand by; we’re off to America soon where a lot of our activities can be done outside in the sunshine so I’ve just ordered myself Outdoor Play Prompts & Messy Play Recipes; I’m very excited to test them out! As a lot of people already know, we’ve got a long jump pit in the garden with a substantial run up track leading to it. While it’s perfect for Greg to train on, yawwwwn, it’s also great for scootering on! If I need something quick and simple to burn off some of Milo’s energy, we grab the scooters (and awesome dinosaur helmet) and race our knees off. Milo’s got the Mini 2 Go which means he’s sorted all the way up to age 5; it started off as something he could sit on and then we took the compartment off & now it serves as a proper scooter (which is of course adjustable). I’ve got my very own run-around, it’s gold and makes me feel like SuperWoman and the reason I love Micro-Scooter in particular is they seem to have tailored for everything; their accessories are so much fun (check them out here)
This is a mum and baby friendly range I wang on about at any given moment. LoveBoo were introduced to me when Milo was small and generic high street bought ‘sensitive’ products just weren’t cutting it (cough Johnsons cough) and I haven’t stopped stocking up since. Everything within the range smells delightful, you only need a little to go a long way and it’s so soothing for little humans. I love the fact it was founded and run by two mums, it’s extravagant without the price tag & you can shop massage oil to sleep spray to perenium oil. Ye-ha, they sell EVERYTHANG. I team them with my Kokoso coconut oil (a brand who are equally as fantastic) (Instagram – @lovebooshop & @kokoso_baby)
I love finding a new brand I can add to the list of go-to’s when it comes to clothes for Milo. Browsing through my favourite online boutique Alex and Alexa, I recently found Soft Gallery & stocked up on a bunch of unisex garms for Milo’s summer wardrobe. I love all the muted colours and unique prints and their swimwear options are so much nicer than you’d find on the high street. I never mind spending a little bit more money when the clothes are so individual, plus decent brands like this always seem to last longer anyway; they’ll definitely be items we’ll save as hand-me-downs. Alex and Alexa always have great sales anyway so it’s well worth keeping an eye out. (Instagram – @softgallery & @alexandalexa)
While we’re on the topic of clothes, another brand I can’t get enough of is The Bonnie Mob. I get a bit of a Little Birds vibe from them a la Jools Oliver and I love all their matching bed/romper/sets; they’re so unusual and vibrant. The concept behind The Bonnie Mob is ‘buy once, buy well, pass it on’ and now I’ve got my hands on some items, I can see they’re absolutely top quality. Again, founded by a mum, this is somewhere to shop if you want to ensure your little ones are head-to-toe in quality which will last for your whole brood. If you’re after knitwear, this is the only brand you need to shop with (Instagram – @bonniemob)
Another work of genius of one of my favourite mamas, Charlotte Peach and this one is just one of the loveliest ideas. Geared around the age-old art of letter writing and getting down on paper our innermost thoughts & feelings, this is a place where you can shop for sleek stationary, read heartfelt scribbles and request personalised prints; Charlotte made one from one of my Instagram photos and it’s framed, ready to hang in my new office. Regularly sharing letters on her Instagram page which she gets through her website (with permission of course), Charlotte lets us in on what parents would like their little ones to know and they’re so touching. Their really is something about the written word and this is a website only set to get bigger and bigger.
I never really got it when I was younger and my mum would always be lighting candles like it was actually something fun to do. Now I’m a mum, ohmygoshItotallygetit. All I ever want to do is light candles. Pretend there’s some sort of tranquility in my house of noise. If I want to have an hour to myself, make the house smell pleasant or unwind in the bath (LOL, like that ever happens) then I hunt out the nearest candle I can find and let it flicker away. SevenSeventeen is a brand founded by two mums who knows the importance of candles and wonderfully, a pound from each sale goes to PANDAS Foundation, supporting mothers suffering from pre and postnatal mental illness so you can do a good deed while treating yourself. They’re decadent without costly enough to make you feel guilty and come in seven glorious scents. Why not check them out on Instagram? @sevenseventeenuk
So there we have it! Just a few brands, treats, goodies you may not have heard of. Go armed with your new information and online shop when your child’s finally. gone. to. bloody. bed. And lastly, just in case you hadn’t noticed, I’ve hyperlinked everything above so just click on the title of the brand and it’ll wing you straight to their website. SEE, I even make it easy!
