Mini Summer Wardrobe, What To Buy
No, the weather in the glorious U.K doesn’t exactly bellow ‘grab your cozzie!’ but we do get a little pocket of sun/sticky, oppressive temperatures here and there so I thought I’d chat about which kids’ brands have just launched stonking SS17 collections and who you should be having a nose at if you want to venture away from the high street.
This past week has seen some bright and brilliant launches & thanks to our annual three month jaunt to a very hot Arizona being on the horizon, I’ve been stocking up on swimwear, shorts, tees, you name it for Milo, ready to pack in the suitcase. And then hopefully, even when we return, I can get a tiny bit of use out of them during our summer. Milton Keynes may become balmy yet.
So whether you’re hanging loose at home and praying for some vitamin D or considering actually flying thousands of miles to hunt for it, here’s the garms you should be keeping an eye on and where you can go to shop for it all. Enjoy!
Gardner And The Gang
I feel like the word ‘funky’ was created for these guys. I absolutely adore dressing Milo in their stuff; it’s bright, it’s individual, you can exactly what brand it is from the second you see it and it’s unisex. This summer I’ve snapped up a pair of their Stars & Unicorns Swim Shorts and a couple of the Golden Dino Classic Sweaters This collection seems to have a bit of a 70’s vibe (check out the Modal shorts) and is perfect for lounging about on the grass or by the pool.
Indikidual’s new collection has aaaaarrrrriiiiivvveeeeddd! Gosh I love ’em. Last year almost all of Milo’s summer wardrobe consisted of banana prints/monster faces/neon thanks to these guys and the photos we’ve got of him are ones we’ll love to look back on for years. They absolutely haven’t disappointed this time around and oh, I just want to buy everything. Snazzy (I can say that word because I’m a mum), as with all our favourites; gender neutral and best of all, there’s some stonking sweaters and hoodies (like this one) for when they sun doesn’t want to come and play. Everything’s excellent quality and the colours don’t fade when you wash.
For those of you that don’t know, Someday Soon is a cool, streetwear brand originally created by a Danish couple (Jacob & Cathrine Hoiland) who struggled to find items their oldest son would want to wear. Cutesy, girlie clothes and fun rompers were readily available but there seemed to be a gap in the market for slightly edgier, mature clothes still fun enough for a teenager. Now their stuff’s sold in 22 counties and is worn by the coolest of kids (girls are big fans too) and this season’s selection is just as good as ever. We’re a big fan of their sweaters (they make some awesome, space-themed designs) but even in warmer weather I’ll never grow tired of their renowned slogan tees and fun snapbacks (although of course Milo keeps them on for all of oh, four seconds on average). If you’re not a huge buyer of bright colours & prefer to opt for monochrome then these guys won’t let you down; really loving everything on offer for SS17.
Tiny Cotton’s new collection is a bit of a danger if I’m totally honest, there’s absolutely not one item I wouldn’t dress my child in. Ordinarily I like the majority of what brands put out, but can pick and choose which ones I want for Milo’s wardrobe… with this selection I’m wondering whether I could sell Milo just soI can afford it all. In fact, while writing this recommendation I’m adding things to my shopping basket; you apparently can’t visit the site without buying. I love their old school vibe, the innocence of their collections & they too wear very, very well. Real hand-me-down stuff. Lots of nice nautical stripes, bloomers and neutral tones to keep you classy through summer. Below is one of my favourites (IF I HAD TO CHOOSE WHICH I CAN’T)
With these guys, the brighter the better. No colour combination is too much, no print is too bold; this is a brand who like creating wild outfits for fun kids and the new collection is no less loud. If you haven’t already shopped with them, you’ve just found yourself a whole new heap of unisex hoodies, trousers and one-pieces to pop in your children’s wardrobe & you’ll be happy to hear they’re durable enough to be worn during any running, muddying & anything else older kids might decide to throw themselves in to. I think they include a really great mix of modern and classic; they manage to make outfits which are child-appropriate and not too grown up, while still cool enough for kids themselves to want to wear them.
This one’s for the monochromers and provides a nice minimalist option against the jungle of rainbow outfits. Nununu focuses on style and simplicity and I’ve snapped up this beautiful shorts & tee set, ready for Milo to leg it round the garden in once we make it to sunny Scottsdale. This brand’s collection (in my opinion) serves as a really great alternative for mums of girls who need a break from all the pastels and pretty; there’s plenty on offer here with comfort in mind but still bold and interesting.
If you’re after some summer outfit inspiration for your little one, you can find the above brands and a tonne others at my favourite online boutiques. Go check out AlexandAlexa, Archie’s Boutique, Sidneyboo! Scandimini, Cissy Wears, Scout & Co Kids
